Ahhh! Sunshine and spring flowers! I love this time of year. Everything is bursting with life and the world is coming alive again. There are new flowers in my yard, the birds are starting to come back and Frank the jack rabbit who lives under my spruce tree looks to be preggo (guess he isn’t a Frank after all!). New life everywhere!
Spring always makes me think about the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. In this kids’ story, the evil witch traps the land in perpetual winter (but never Christmas). She holds the land in frozen death until Aslan, Great Lion (the son of the emperor from over the sea) is invited to come in and she is overthrown. Then, freed from this terrible curse, snow melts, the ice crashes down and new life bursts forth.
C.S. Lewis wrote this as an allegory of the winter of the soul that entraps all of us until we are rescued by the Son of God, King of Everything. Without rescue we are trapped in a perpetual winter of broken relationship with God. But when we allow Him to come into our world, He breaks the curse of the winter in our soul and begins the process of bursting forth in new life within us.
My wish and prayer for you as we all enjoy the warmth of the sun and the wonder of new growth is that you would discover springtime in your soul. Then stand back and be amazed at what God can grow in you. If at any time you would like to continue this conversation, please don’t hesitate to ask me – this is what makes my heart sing!
